What I Know

So what I do know about how this wedding is going to go, is the night is going to end up happening like this: We'll get married and have a beautiful ceremony and after at the reception, things are going to get crazy. We're going to have a great time jamming out to some house music and drinking our favorite drinks, celebrating with family and friends and if we look this happy, and have half as much fun as we've had on our best nights, I'll be thoroughly pleased. After all, a wedding isn't about how great the event is, how much money you spent on it, or whether you had a Pnina Tornai gown, or one from David's Bridal; what really matters is the fact that I'm going to be marrying this guy because I love him and want to spend the rest of my life with him, no matter how crazy that shit gets.

Decisions Decisions

As silly and naive as it sounds, I've discovered that wedding planning is not a walk in the park or as fun as I thought it would be. Is it fun? Yes, it's kinda fun, but at the same time it presents you with all kinds of different, hard to make decisions. Example 1: In what state do we have the wedding? When his family is from Florida and mine is from North Carolina, what state do we pick?! Sure, Florida has lots of venue options, but so does North Carolina! And NC is cheaper, but regardless of where we have it, someone's family will have to travel...

On that note, the main man also just informed me that he wants a beach wedding... I have several issues with beach weddings. Let me preface this by saying that this is just my opinion and to each his own, and everyone's wedding is beautiful in its own way. So with that being said, here's my take on beach weddings - first of all, they're great... IF it's your second wedding, or you're renewing your vows, or you're trying to save money which is a great option! (Who wants to start their lifetime commitment with their partner in a crap ton of debt due to a lavish over the top wedding?) Also, I've been to beach weddings, a lot of them. It's hot, humid, the weather changes at the drop of a hat, and seriously, who the hell wants a bunch of old, gross, beach goers in bikinis and speedos standing around watching their wedding or photo bombing their beautiful wedding portraits? I recently read in a popular wedding magazine that the beach goers add to the "charm" of a beach wedding... they've obviously lost their minds.

At least in the midst of all this discussion we did figure out a few things: the wedding color scheme (purple and gold), the bridesmaids and groomsmen, and the fact that we do in some way want the beach involved in our wedding (but I'm leaning towards a reception on the water). Andddddd that's about it. Yeah, sad I know. Definitely going to put together one of those intense, super organized wedding binders and get to work on this planning business. Wish me luck y'all.

Wedding Season...

Wedding season is here! And while I'm certainly not the type to freak out over the over-priced, over-hyped, utterly ridiculous season, this year I'm a little more excited.. and paying A LOT more attention. What caused me to all of a sudden pay attention to wedding season? Well there really are two reasons:
1. My boyfriend's sister is (drum roll please) FINALLY* engaged. I say finally because she's only been with her now fiance for a billion years. More like 8, but that still sounds like a lot. They're the ever adorable high school sweethearts and are truly an amazing couple.
2. The second, and probably more influencial reason, is that I've found a wonderful man who has been "dropping hints" like crazy that he's going to pop the question sometime in the near future.
Both of these contributing to the growing list of reasons that I've jumped on the wedding bandwagon, and I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that not only have I made a blog, but I also have a full on Pinterest dedicated to wedding inspiration of what I want the big day to look like. Yes, go ahead and roll your eyes, I'm one of those girls. You know, the one who "pins" things all the time and does all those DIY crafts that never turn out as great as they're supposed to.

So, with all of this wonderful wedding stuff going on, I was recently introduced to the Bridal Expo phenomenon and it was probably one of the most overwhelming, hilarious, and interesting events I have ever attended. Probably a few HUNDRED brides, grooms, bridesmaids, and seriously every other person who attends a wedding that you could possibly imagine. There was all kinds of free stuff - free samples from caterers, bakers, sangria samples, people doing hair, make-up, teeth whitening, there were photographers, DJs, live bands, limo companies... Oh.My.Good Gravy. It was stupid packed. I learned a lot, and returned home with "The Knot" Florida addition magazine that probably weighed as much as a small child. And very exhausted, overwhelmed, and oddly excited, I snuggled up next to my man, had some pizza, watched a zombie movie, and went to bed. Let the wedding planning festivities begin.
